Bize-Minervois, Aude, Occitanie
La Cachette, and its sister house, Le Chai, are two properties situated next to each other in the heart of small traditional French village, Bize Minervois. Bize is in the Minervois appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) wine region, with river swimming available and three great restaurants within five minutes walking distance. So great food, great wine and a great way to work it all off!

Bize is a picturesque small village with a population of just over 1,000 situated on the edge of the Languedoc Regional Park. Parts of the village are very old, with the occasional tower or turret still remaining and both Prehistoric and Gallo-Roman remains have been identified close by. In medieval times, the village used to be completely walled and one of the original village great gateways still remains.

Bize is a perfect place for a restful h...

Living and working in London we wanted somewhere to chill out and recharge - and this charming little place was just the job. We travelled via train from Ebbsfleet to Narbonne, appreciating the French countryside before driving to Bize. Parking is easily available just a couple of minutes up the lane from La Cachette though once here you can wander around the pretty village, in and out of restaurants, bars and local shops to your heart's content. Two minutes stroll to the bakery for your daily bread is a real treat! Clean, safe swimming is available in the river and there's easy access to the countryside for scenic cycle rides. The locals are very welcoming and want to help - whether it's telling you about horse riding in the area, recommending walks or historic sights to see. In the unlikely event that the weather is disappointing then the accommodation is equipped with DVDs, books and CDs - besides games for every age group. We even got invited to a drinks reception by local...

How to get there
There are several airport options available with main local airports being at Bezier, Carcassonne or Perpignan, all about an hour away:

Beziers: the closest to Bize, is about 40 min drive away and used by Ryanair and Flybe. Hertz and Europcar for car hire are both present here.

Carcassonne: is the next closest at about an hour drive away, again used by Ryanair. Again Hertz and Europcar operate from here. If the aircraft comes in from the east there is a fantastic view of the ancient town of Carcassonne, La Cité.

Perpignan: another small regional airport like Carcassonne and Beziers. It is serviced by Flybe, Ryanair, Aer Lingus and Air France. It is about 1 hour drive from Bize.

Montpellier: is about 1 and a half... more
