2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4
Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera, Canary Islands
Two bedroom family house with balcony, set in the quiet, rural village of Casa de la Seda. Perfectly positioned as a start point for numerous walks, while at the same time only 2.5km from the beach.

At the heart of Casa La Seda's eight houses is Casita de la Cascada, 25mins. walk (2.5km) from the beaches (buses pass five times daily) at the junction of the main road and the paths crossing the valley to the small church and the various hamlets on the opposite slopes. We enjoyed our stay here. The house is set amongst other small local houses but in a charming setting. It has a lovely sittingroom/kitchen upstairs which leads out to a nice area to sit outside under the bamboo 'roof' shown in the picture (which catches sunshine at various times of the day). Two bedrooms and shower room/loo downstairs. Its all...

Management response:

Hi Stephen, I'm very glad you enjoyed the casita, and I look forward to welcoming you to stay again in the future. Regards, Fin

Very comfortable and well-equipped accommodation. Well located for the start of a number of walks - not least the adjacent waterfall trail. It was nice being a little out of town, but within easy reach. A pleasant gentle stroll down to Valle Gran Rey, but a bit more challenging coming back! Fin was very helpful and responsive. All in all...

Thanks Julie, I look forward to having you to stay again in the future!

We stayed at Casita de la Cascada for a week or so in April and really enjoyed it. The island is great for hiking, but we didn't really make the most of this as we were primarily interested in bird watching so drove quite a bit and managed a few hikes. If I came back I would bring my walking...

About the neighbourhood
La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands is unique. No region like Gomera's upland cloud-forests exists on earth. When the Spanish colonists cut down all the vast Canarian forests to feed sugar mills after they colonised the islands in the 16th century only La Gomera escaped, being then remote. For its uniqueness, it was declared a World Heritage Park in 1986 (one of the very first) One can walk for miles through the heathers and laurel trees. The cloud forests feed the huge Valle Gran Rey with water; it is green, there is almost always sun but there is seldom rain.
The beaches are of black sand. Sometimes, in winter storms, the sand is washed away, but there is always sand on the port beach (with awesome cliffs above) and on the "Baby Beach" (perfect f... more

How to get there
Fly into Tenerife South or North (South is much easier) with any of a number of airlines. Ryanair offer a cheap service from over 40 airports around Europe, including a dozen in the UK. From the port of Los Critianos on the south of Tenerife take the 1 hour ferry to the Island of La Gomera. From here the Valle gran Rey is a 45 minute bus or taxi ride across the peak of the island, taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Garajonay National Park.
