A cosy end of terrace cottage in a quiet residential area. This former miner’s cottage is situated in the popular mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. The perfect place for a quiet get-away or an outdoor adventure. Through the porch (great for muddy boots) you will find a comfortable, open-plan living space, with sofas, a dining area and bespoke oak kitchen. There is also a wood burning stove for those nippier nights. Through the kitchen is a lobby, with washing machine, and a well-appointed bathroom where you will find a small bath and shower over. Up the narrow, steep, staircase, a typical feature of the miner’s cottages, you will find the two bedrooms; a double where you can wake up to mountain views and a spacious single. Outside there are two terraced areas from which you can enjoy views of the mountains or valley. On warmer evenings, sit and relax, with a drink and BBQ. There is secure storage for up to three bicycles. The local area: Just five minutes’ walk will take you into Blaenau Ffestiniog. There you will find a great range of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants and takeaways. There is also a cinema, park and swimming pool. For outdoor pursuits, Blaenau Ffestiniog is hard to beat. A footpath on the doorstep and many more within easy reach. From quiet woodland walks to strenuous mountain hikes, there is something for everyone. There is an abundance of cycling trails, including world-class downhill mountain biking with Antur Stiniog. Ride the skies at Zip World Titan, delve deep into the Slate Mine, and Bounce Below in a cavern full of trampolines. Within a few miles you’ll find kayaking and white-water rafting. For a relaxing getaway, take a ride on the Ffestiniog narrow-gauge steam railway through spectacular scenery to the harbour town of Porthmadog. While you are there, perhaps sample the excellent local beers. The unique and fanciful village of Portmeirion is nearby and sandy beaches are easily reached. Caernarfon with its castle and Anglesey are both about an hour away. Leave your car at home; many facilities and attractions can be reached by bus or train. The cottage itself is about 10 minutes’ walk from the bus and railway station (albeit up a steep hill). More

We booked our stay last minute and I wanted somewhere we could explore the Snowdonia National Park for a couple of days. The cottage was booked with no fuss and we arrived on a Sunday evening. The drive into Blaenau Ffestiniog was epic and stunning!...More

Thank you for your lovely review. I have taken on board your comments about the sofas. I am looking into alternative seating arrangements. As you know, I am rather constricted in my choices by space. How wonderful to see the harvest moon. It is a...More

Thank you for your review. Your comments are much appreciated. I'm glad you found everything to your satisfaction. There are some things I could change if necessary but I'm afraid steep stairs are one of the quirks of old properties and are there to stay....More

About the neighbourhood
Blaenau Ffestiniog, is located in the middle of the Snowdonia National Park. Known as the town that roofed the world, it still bears the scars of its slate industrial history. Every piece of slate you see has been touched by hand. A great central location for all that North Wales has to offer. Visitors are encouraged to support small independent businesses in the town eg. our butcher, baker, cinema, restaurants, cafes, pubs, various gift shops, etc. Walking from the house, or within a short drive, there are lakes, mountains, waterfalls, footpaths including the Snowdonia Slate Trail. Tourist Information is available at Antur Stiniog in the town centre. Locals are mostly Welsh speaking and are approachable, friendly and welcoming.
Getting around
The mainline train station is about 10 minutes walk from the cottage. The train rom Blaenau Ffestiniog travels to and fro to Llandudno, stopping at Llandudno Junction (with links to major cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and London) via the Conwy Valley Scenic Route. Many people like to use the train to visit Betws-y-Coed. There is also the famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway which travels though spectacular scenery to Porthmadog and beyond to Caernarfon. There is also a reasonable bus service to take to you local places of interest.
