Balranald Cottage is a former 'Black House' which was originally built around 1885. It has since been converted into a modern property which is a perfect base for visitors to explore the Outer Hebrides. Within the RSPB's nature reserve, our guests often comment on the wide variety of wildlife from the cottage windows! We loved Balranald Cottage, particularly the sun room, where we sat and watched birds from the window, including a short eared owl, meadow pipits and flocks of starlings and geese. There were orchids in the meadow outside and a 15 minute walk through the machair...More

We spent a long time looking to come to Uist and an equal amount of attention looking at accommodation. We found the cottage and immediately it ticked all the boxes, traditional, wood fire, near beaches, accepts pets and looked amazing. the pictures don't do it...More

A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. Beautifully presented, well equipped with everything you might need. Just a couple of issues, a visitors guide would be most helpful, it took us a while to work out the heating and why the TV in the lounge...More
