Lovely traditional house (with pool!) in a lively village
The location was fantastic, the village is lively with the shops you need and bars / restaurants. The house is lovely, large and airy, and the back garden with the pool is completely private and a place you want to spend time. Getting around the area is easy with the network of small roads in such good condition and only light traffic. There is plenty to discover, you do need to drive into the villages, as on the outskirts they can appear dead. Only when you get to the centre do you see what is really there. important to keep an eye out for local signs of events, they seem to appear daily. Definitely worth attending. We'd come back in a heartbeat.

French village life.....
We (a couple) spent a thoroughly enjoyable fortnight in Ginestas staying in Mark’s spacious village house. It was lovely to have accommodation that gave us the full French village experience. The house is incredibly spacious and has been renovated in order to retain the atmosphere of the past -original tiles kept where possible, authentic fireplaces etc. The newly extended living area is huge. The garden is maturing well and we can’t speak highly enough of the beautiful, sparkling pool heated to a very comfortable level. We’ve never been in a house with so many bathrooms – all beautifully fitted out and working perfectly. The beds were comfortable, towels and linens good quality. Pool towels were provided too. We loved the photos of old Ginestas decorating the walls and it was interesting to compare past and present. Ginestas doesn’t seemed to have changed too much in the last hundred years which gives it its charm. There’s a small market on Thursdays – good quality cheese, fruit/veg and fresh meat. On Sundays there’s a roast chicken van outside the Mairie – you can place an order and pick it up later – he’s gone by 1pm though. There’s also a visiting pizza van – not sure what days however. We ate at Oncle Jules and O’Neill’s in the village. Both excellent – we were there in June and they both had restricted opening days so best to check if open before setting off. The bakery is excellent – closed on Wednesday but the Tabac stocks bread on Wednesdays to fill the gap! There always seemed to be somewhere open to eat at Le Somail, a two minute car journey (or half an hour walk) away. We enjoyed Le Chat Qui Pêche on the canal at Argeliers – what a perfect setting for a meal. We walked miles and miles through the vineyards and along the beautiful Canal du Midi to other villages around Ginestas – there was always something interesting to see. The village shop has closed but the Intermarché at St Marcel is five minutes away and supplied everything we needed. If you’re looking to experience French village life but with all the modern comforts we’d thoroughly recommend Marks place in Ginestas.

Wow, delighted that you enjoyed it so much and discovered some of the experiences that made us fall in love with the area. The pizza van only appears on Fridays, miraculously it seems to make it there despite looking about 80 years old! Adds to the charm! Always welcome back. Mark.

Lovely house in pretty village
We loved our stay in Ginestas - the house was furnished to a high standard and very clean on arrival, pool towels were provided and this was invaluable. We were 11 guests and there was amble room, outside chairs, sunbeds etc. Pool and garden were lovely, even better than the pictures. Property was easy to find, access etc., plenty of on street parking (we had 3 cars). Great restaurant recommendations which we used. Good/quick responses from the manager with regards to a couple of enquiries. The house was generally well equipped although we were only able to find 1 fan which was a bit of a challenge as the weather was very hot. We were also a little surprised that big bags, washing up liquid, sponges were not provided in the kitchen and only 1 tea towel for a 5 day stay. These were minor things though, we had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Fabulous
Had a great stay in this lovely, clean and spacious property. Weather hot, so spent most of the time around the pool, which was perfect for catching up on a bit of exercise and playing ball games ! Plenty of parking. Short walk to the Canal du Midi. Situate in a nice little town with boulangerie, grocery store, pharmacy and bank. Enjoyed tasty meals at Les Trois Petit Cochons and Oncle Jules. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful, elegant French house
We didn't want to leave. The house is gorgeous - fabulous big swimming pool, well-equipped kitchen, large airy bedrooms (most en suite) and stunning central staircase. You can pretend you're in a Kristen Scott Thomas film. Easy walking distance to an alimentation, a boulangerie, three bars which also serve food at good prices (hours for food vary so check them first). You're 30/40 minutes from Beziers, Carcassonne and Narbonne (but don't go on a Sunday when all the shops are shut...) We went river swimming and bathing in nearby Bize en Mivervois, picked up quirky bargains at a local vide grenier (a car boot but in gorgeous surroundings) and managed to be there for a Ginestas fête (food, wine and dancing in the main square). La Somail is lovely - fantastic second hand bookshop and boat hire. We picked up great pizzas at an open air roadside place about 15 minutes away. Can takeaway as well It was very hot which prevented us from doing as much as we'd have liked but we still managed to see a lot of this lovely region. Would love to come back in autumn or spring. Thanks

Gorgeous house. Great location.
We stayed in this gorgeous house for ten days with our family. It’s been so tastefully restored and has lots of original features. It’s both comfortable and well fitted. It’s spacious and could easily accommodate two families. The pool is terrific and surrounded by beautiful plants and has a great seating area. The sound of birdsong is a lovely accompaniment when sitting outside. There are so many places to visit within 10 to 50 minutes- it’s very well located. The town has a great bakery. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this house again!

We Fell In Love
We took a last minute stay and absolutely fell in love with the region, the village & the house. The house is absolutely charming with lots of original features but updated very tastefully with all you need for self catering/large groups. The village is typically French and quiet with a local restaurant serving exceptional value for money lunches. We enjoyed the village music festival one evening and a small market one morning plus we used the bakery every day. If you want to eat out for dinner then you'll need to go to one of the nearby villages or further afield, we'd recommend La Cambuse du Saunier for the beautiful setting and sensational seafood (book ahead at busy times). Within striking distance of the beautiful Canal du Midi, lunch in Ventenac or Le Somail are a must. The weather was exceptionally hot for the time of year so we were pleased we'd booked a house with a pool, I would imagine a must in the height of summer too. As such we didn't do as much boating, cycling or walking as we'd anticipated but the house was the perfect location for a 'flop & drop' break. Mark has been incredibly helpful & responsive prior-to & during our stay, we wouldn't hesitate to book here or any of his other places (MarksPlaces) again as we'd be assured of great service and a quality property. In fact we were only supposed to stay at the house for 7 days but were able to extend by a couple of days as we were so at home there!

Do not hesitate to book!
We had a fabulous time! Was great to see family (after 10 years!) and friends. The house was absolutely wonderful! So much space and all the equipment we needed. Met the guys from the brewery too who were lovely! Clean and perfect! (Rented lots of villas over the years in various countries and this was the cleanest!!!!) The area was interesting and had some lovely restaurants. Thank you for our stay.

Big rooms upstairs and a big pool outside
Plenty of room for the 4 of us. We ate outside by the pool when we were at the house. Pool was lovely in the 32C heated August sun. Lovely ornate features inside. Fantastic lightening storm one night. 5 min walk to a lovely bakery. We walked to Minervois, along the canal and back through the vineyard - 5 miles or so. Nice one Mark - we would definitely come back again, thank you.

About the neighbourhood
Ginestas is a friendly village set well away from any many roads. It has a strong community of its own with a couple of shops, a café, a bar and a restaurant. the buildings throughout the village are traditional and old. You really are in a French traditional village! There are chateaux, domains and other medieval villages all around. Turn left out of the house and you are literally in a vineyard within 100metres! The historic Canal du Midi is a mile away. Lush countryside with vineyards all around and views across to the Haute Languedoc just a few miles away. On a clear day it is even possible to see the snow-capped Pyrenees in the distance.
