Just had a lovely week at Vindomora country lodges. We stayed in Hadrian’s lodge. Very clean and well equipped, the bed was comfortable. We took our dog with us and had a lot of walks out and about with her. Went to Durham for the afternoon which was about 25 mins away. There’s loads of places on just eat that deliver to the lodges, so didn’t cook much! But the kitchen is well equipped if you wanted to with oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine etc.
Hot tub was private and clean and well looked after.
The site itself was very quiet, we didn’t see or hear anyone else all week. Bonus!
Craig the owner is very nice, nothing too much bother, very knowledgeable about local places to visit etc.
if you visit with your dog there’s a walk just straight out the back into woodland near the river which is nice.
There’s a couple of pubs but not really in walking distance unless you’re up for a couple of miles hike. But there is a Tesco extra in consett where you can stock up from and sitting in the hot tub with a wine seemed liked a better option!
If you are after peace and quiet, relaxation and nice surroundings then this is the place to go. Good location for getting to Newcastle, Durham, Hadrian’s wall if you are wanting to explore. If not, go for nice country walks, stock up on essentials from consett supermarkets, get yourself in the hot tub (any weather) and chill! The TV you can sign into your Netflix account or whatever so cosy film nights are doable.
I would say that it is advertised as dog friendly, but the lodge we stayed in wasn’t completely enclosed. Our dog wouldn’t have taken kindly to being shut in whilst we were outside in the hot tub! Not a problem for other dogs, but she isn’t used to being left on her own. So would take her bed and put it next to the hot tub for her, but had to keep an eye out that she didn’t wonder off! It’s not really an issue, if we go again I’d pick a lodge that was fully enclosed (if there’s one that’s dog friendly) so I wouldn’t have to worry about her whilst we were in the tub. My only suggestion for improvement on the feedback form was to maybe think of ways to make it dog friendly if advertised as such, like providing dog bowls, treats, bed etc so you don’t have have to bring it all with you. But other than that it’s hard to think of anything else I would change when looking for a tranquil, relaxing break in the north east. I would wholeheartedly recommend.
