Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Amazing peaceful getaway.
Amazing place, the ideal retreat for a peaceful getaway. Me and my partner stayed here for our anniversary weekend and we couldn't have asked for better. Karen from expectations travel helped with our booking, excellent customer service and Craig the manager couldn't of been more helpful when we arrived, showing us around the lodge and letting us know if we needed anything he was just on the other end of the telephone. The lodge was amazing the wood fire and the hot tub made our holiday.

Great stay at vindomora lodges
Stunning lodge! Has everything you need and more, really appreciate all the added extras they’ve thought about making it stand out from all the other lodges I’ve stayed in. Gorgeous walks around Derwent river, only 20 min drive away and beautiful food from the near by restaurants!

Wow, it’s a real log cabin.
One of the best lodges we’ve stopped in, within a couple of hours of arriving we were so relaxed, there’s plenty to do within approximately 1 hour drive. The lodges are well equipped Craig and the team have thought of everything and are so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble. We’ve already booked to go back again and can’t wait. If your reading this review and wondering should I book, then yes go for it.

Excellent Log Cabins
This was our first visit to Vindamorra and most definitely won't be our last. We stayed in Oswin Lodge which had everything you need for a relaxing holiday, comfortable, great views and an excellent hot tub. Northumberland/County Durham is a beautiful area with plenty to see or to just chill and take in the beautiful vista's. A stay here is highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

Another Fabulous Relaxing Stay
This is our 3rd visit to Vindomora and certainly won't be our last. Our 2nd time in Housesteads This ticks so many boxes for us. We love the hot tub, and the view's from this one are just fantastic. Super clean and a lovely temperature. Robes supplied and even hooks to hang them 😀 The site is so quiet and peaceful. The lodge is very spacious, but also very cosy with a thermostat to change to your preferred temperature. Comfortable bed with fresh linen & towels. There is a new sofa since our last visit, and it is very comfortable! The lodge is very well equipped and anything missing.....mention to Craig, he is a great host and is keen to ensure you have a great stay! There is a Tesco extra a few miles away and local shops in the area. We visited Durham again (30 mins away roughly) we parked at the park & ride which worked well. Beautiful place with lots to see & the most amazing fish & chips at Bells 😉 But to be honest, we spent most of our time in the hot tub & lodge and had the most relaxing, enjoyable stay. The weather was also kind to us! Thanks Craig for another lovely break.

Nice stay
Views are great and the lodges are pretty well-equipped. Ours was quite dirty in places, the internal logs could do with a dust/clean. We also couldn’t find a chopping board. The hot tub was great and they came and checked it every day. The garden is lovely but beware if you have a dog any smaller than a lab as ours managed to escape through the holes in the hedge. A roll of chicken wire would make the garden totally secure. All-in-all we had a great time and would recommend the lodges. There was supposed to be a bar on site but it wasn’t open for the duration of our stay. The local store up the hill has amazing sausage rolls and home made pies etc. great sandwiches and locally produced foods and products. Beds are comfy and towels, linens etc were provided, as well as robes for the tubs. Our lodge was supposed to sleep 6 but I think we would have struggled with space and utensils etc for any more than four.

Thank you for taking the time to review our site, the Housesteads Lodge and for your recommendation. Firstly, I want to apologise for the logs in your lodge not meeting our usual high standards due to dust. Since the lodges are handcrafted entirely from wood, they are susceptible to accumulating dust quickly, even after thorough cleaning. We are continually working to address this issue I will address your other comments with factual information to ensure a balanced and objective response. Our hot tubs are checked regularly to ensure the best chemical balance and we always empty, clean and refill them between guests. We provide all linen, towels and robes for our guests, as well as a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Based on feedback from our guests, both through forms and direct conversations, we strive to ensure each lodge is equipped with the necessary amenities. Reference has been made to no chopping board being in the kitchen but on inspection, a white one was found in the kitchen cupboard to the right of the oven. We make it a priority during our personal handover of the lodge to remind guests to inform us immediately if they notice anything missing or are dissatisfied with the lodge, so we can resolve any issues promptly. Although we followed up with you a few days into your stay, you did not raise any concerns. Please understand that we can only address concerns if we are aware of them. The bar in the reception area is not mentioned on our website or through our booking agent because it is only available for exclusive bookings, such as for wedding parties. This is to ensure we accurately represent the amenities provided. During the lodge handover, you mentioned that your dog is known for escaping. This became evident within the first hour of your stay. While the hedging provides a natural and secure boundary, a determined pet may still manage to find a way out. We aim to minimize the use of fencing and rely on hedging to create a natural barrier that enhances the landscape while offering security, privacy, and habitat for wildlife. The Housesteads lodge is designed to accommodate up to 6 people and is equipped accordingly. It is one of our most popular lodges, having been 80% booked this year, frequently by large families with dogs. The lodge is fully furnished and equipped to meet the needs of this capacity. Thank you once more for your review. We remain committed to delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a high standard of accommodation for all our guests.

Great accomodation with good views.
First impressions of the lodge were good, and it was beautifully presented. The kitchen was very well equipped (although we could not find a chopping board and take some scourers for the stainless steel pans) and the bathroom fittings were top notch with plenty of hot water. The beds were very comfortable with good linen and the towels were excellent, soft and large! We had an issue with the TV, Craig the manager was quickly on hand to sort it out. Although we could not get access to the apps, we had a laptop and HDMI cable with us so not a problem but could watch freeview with no issues. The Hot tub was glorious! The views from our lodge - Housesteads - were wonderful and the whole site has a great feel. We did feel that the log walls were carrying a bit of dust but generally the place was very clean. We took our dog, and she appreciated the garden and the local footpath walks by the river; it was just a shame that some of the roman ruins do not allow dogs so do check before hand if you are taking your dog. If you go to the Ebchester village shop (next to the area were the roman fort was) we can highly recommend the cook yourself cumberland sausage rolls - absolutley delicious! We will return!

Thank you for your review. We will address areas where you felt could be improved and have ordered new chopping boards. Our local village store has a large range of items for guests and their breakfast sandwiches are amazing too! Hope to see you again soon. Craig
