We stayed in Dollag's Cottage for an idyllic two weeks in early May. 2016. The cottage is named after the owner, Dollanna's, grandmother. Dollanna greeted us with a really warm Hebridean welcome, showing us around and demonstrating how everything worked. There was a huge platter of freshly made sandwiches and a delicious cake topped with cream and strawberries, together with...

The Isle of Lewis is surprisingly well connected with regular ferry sailings from both Ullapool (about 1.5 hours drive from Inverness) on the west coast of Scotland and also from Uig on the Isle of Skye. The Uig ferry docks in Tarbert on the Isle of Harris which is connected to Lewis and so it is a simple matter to drive up from Harris. There are also very good air links with Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh and car hire can be arranged allowing you to pick up your car at Stornoway Airport. The Isle of Lewis, and the attached Isle of Harris, have a good bus service with the town of Stornoway acting as the hub for Lewis. There is a bus stop only a few hundred yards from Dollag's Cottage. Roads in the Hebrides are good though a few areas of single track road still remain and t... more
