Beautiful September stay
We have returned to this stunning villa, this time in September. The weather has been beautiful with deep blue skies so we have not felt the need to venture far particularly as the pool is still great to swim in. We did visit the coast at Marinella di Sarzana, an easy one hour drive, which was ideally quiet after the summer squash. There are a number of local festas this time of the year (fig and chestnuts) which are very friendly and welcoming and great fun to visit. There is now a monthly antiques market in the piazza in Fivizzano where we bought some interesting items to take home including a ‘diamond’ encrusted watch for my wife for 5 euros!!! Whilst you will need a light sweater for the evenings it is still wonderful to dine outside on the front terrace watching the brilliant sunsets down the valley.

Fantastic Villa
We are a family of 4 with children aged 10 and 13 and loved our stay at the villa. The villa was easily found from Pisa airport using iPhone Sat Nav taking circa 80-90 mins on good roads. The villa has the feel of a family home with everything you need. The villa is spacious with large bedrooms and comfortable beds. The views are amazing and having dinner at sunset on the front terrace will be a lasting memory. The pool was fantastic, a good size and nice and warm when we stayed end of July. The locals were very friendly and the villa is ideally located to explore Northern Tuscany, with plenty days out locally. The church bells adjacent were interesting and as stated in the villa instructions bring your earplugs as these ring every half hour 24/7!

Beautiful Tuscany
Lovely villa with possibly the best pool of any holiday rental that we have used. Beautiful surroundings in this mountainous region. We very much enjoyed the fireflies in the meadows at night. Loads of info on trips out and various eating establishments in the area. It is very much a family home and wish to thank both Phil and Ann for letting us enjoy their holiday house.

Beautiful Tuscany Villa – Can’t wait to go back!!!
My wife and I have enjoyed many holidays at Villa Rouse and intend to keep coming back for many more over the years to come. We live in London and love exploring rural Tuscany for relaxation, excellent food and to enjoy this beautiful villa. It is particularly special for us both as we got engaged here and we spent our mini moon at Villa Rouse! Travelling to and from the airport (normally Pisa for us) is straight forward, even for the novice Brit driving in Italy. We often base ourselves in Po and drive to Pisa, Lucca, Cinque Terre and La Spezia for day trips and overnight stays. Google maps/sat nav will guide you straight to Po. Make sure you have cash at hand ready for the toll. If you hire a car from Pisa airport make sure you fill the tank on the way back at either a petrol station in Pisa or on the motorway and avoid the airport petrol station. The airport petrol station payment system is very strange (pre-payment pumps) which can become chaotic with other travellers. The local town of Fivizzano is a lovely Italian town with a traditional Piazza which we visit daily. The supermarket has everything you need and a lovely deli counter with all the cheese and Parma ham you could wish for and a good selection of great value vino. Make sure you take note of the opening hours. We always try and pop into the Piazza for coffee, pizza and ice cream and normally park in the piazza. When entering the Piazza the first restaurant on the left (ristorante Pizzeria Medicea) is excellent value and has an extensive pizza menu. The bar in the corner next to the church is great for a cold beer and an Aperol spritz with bar snacks. Very friendly owners. Another restaurant just outside the piazza is the Country Club. They offer a great selection of food off menu which they will run through with you. We always enjoy dining outside here with a Litro di vino. You can get away with basic Italian in Fivizzano but would recommend you travel with a guide book with basic Italian. The locals appreciate the attempt even if it is poor (like mine!) The visitor book in the villa has a great selection of alternative restaurants in particular Ristorante Case Giannino! The house is perfect……everything you need for a wonderful holiday. The Rouse family have ensured everything is there to enjoy your holiday. It is perfect if you like lazy days next to the pool and BBQ on the front terrace watching the sun go down in the valley. Equally it is perfectly situated for those looking to explore the sights of Tuscany. We love our holidays here and would highly recommend staying at Villa Rouse to all of our friends who are looking for a peaceful, relaxing Italian holiday as a couple, with friends or family. Can’t wait until next July!

Tuscany retreat
We had a fantastic time in this lovely authentic villa. The locals are all very friendly and it's an ideal place to try out your Italian. The bread lady down the road is very friendly and the bar on the main road sells lovely local produce. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

The real Italy experience
Went on a holiday to Italy from Japan and everything was perfect during the stay. If you want to have a relaxing real Italy experience, this is definitely the place to stay. 10 of us stayed for about a week and it was a perfect big house for a big group. Even if it’s a small town, there are so many things to do and everyday was just so perfect. There is a little cute town if you drive about 10 mins from the house with a grocery store (with all the amazing local I gredients) and great local restaurants, a hike path just behind the house, a bar down the road (you can walk there!), and a beautiful beach if you drive about 30 mins. Everything you need for the perfect vacation...! My favorite was the every night meals in the front of the house. You can just literally sit there for hours and just enjoy the beautiful sunset with Italian tomato, Italian pasta, Italian wine and Italian bread (there is a delicious local bead shop which is walking distance too). Very different from the city and if you are looking for a place to take your mind off your busy everyday and just enjoy your vacation, this is definitely the place to go.

Stunning villa to relax and enjoy the beautiful Tuscan landscape
This is a house where you can just turn up and immediately emerse yourself in Tuscan village life. Scenery was stunning, house was beautiful and homely, and outside space with pool was fantastic. Would recommend this villa to all. Went with 3 teenage daughters who enjoyed the experience. The half hourly chime from the bell tower is both an experience and a charming reminder of the slowness of time relaxing throughout the house and outdoors. Thanks for a lovely week and will certainly look to return.

Holiday Bliss
We have stayed in this stunning Tuscan house many times and never grow tired of it's wonderful location amidst stunning scenery in the tiny hamlet of Po. It is decorated, furnished and equipped to the highest standard and clearly the owners take great pride in ensuring that your stay is memorable. Breakfast on the rear terrace with bread literally straight from the local, log fired oven (forno) just a few minutes walk away followed by a relaxing day by the pool and an evening meal on the front terrace watching the sun set down the valley is our idea of heaven. Fivizzano, a small market town just a 10 minute drive away, offers a variety of local produce in it's array of friendly shops including bakers, butchers, mini markets, supermarket, fish shop and bars. A coffee, or something a little stronger, in one of the two the cafes in the piazza is a must as is a visit to the Pizzaria with its fantastic choice of ridiculously cheap pizzas. There are good, reasonably priced restaurants in the area and in Gianninos, on the road to Cerreto, you will experience the best pasta we have ever tasted with stunning views down the valley from the terrace. Lucca, Pisa and Florence are within easy driving distance as are the airports of Genoa, Pisa and Parma. So, if you are looking for a holiday in a beautiful house surrounded by jaw dropping vistas then look no further.

A slice of Tuscan life!
We have stayed at Villa Rouse many times over the years, as a group of friends and as a family and had so many fantastic times. I am going to attempt to cram some of it into my review and hope to do it justice! In our most recent trip we spent most of our time enjoying the pool, venturing out either to admire the views, test out my basic/poor Italian at the local bread shop or walk down the hill for a pre dinner gin and tonic in the bar (the walk back up is a little more energetic!). We spent many evenings bbq'ing on the terrace (the butchers in fivizzano is definitely worth a visit) watching the sun go down over the mountains, whilst making the most of the Italian prosecco! We were lucky enough to go during the week the fireflys were out and spent most evenings enjoying watching them light up the garden. There is no light pollution out there so for anyone who is into stargazing it is perfect. The pizzeria in fivizzano is definitely worth a visit, we went twice last year and I needed an ice cream detox (from the cafe in the square) on my return. The house is beautifully decorated and every year we go back there seems to be something new to enjoy. Although this is a quiet location we are never bored! In previous years we have used Po as our base for seeing things such as the leaning tower, the ponte vecchio in Florence and Sienna but my most memorable trip by far was seeing the annual festival at the cinque terra, where in the evening everything is lit by hundreds upon hundreds of candles. It is truly stunning!! The beach is about 40 minutes drive away and you do need to hire a car in order to explore some of the local area and make the most of the restaurants. In our opinion this place is a real find and if you are prepared to pack your phrase book you can embrace the authentic Tuscan lifestyle!

About the neighbourhood
This area of Tuscany is as yet very much untouched by mass tourism and therefore still retains a small town charm From the spring there appears a profusion of wild flowers and flowering acacia and chestnut trees, through to the autumn when the colours of the trees are likened to those of New England. This is a beautiful and as yet unspoilt part of Italy! We have a local bakery/shop where Anna cooks bread daily in the traditionally using an oven heated by sticks. She also sells cheese, meats and other basic supplies. Anna, although she speaks no English will happily talk to you in Italian for as long as you like and is extremely friendly. Anna's is a five minute walk from the house just outside of our village located in Uglianfredo. On the main road down from the village there is a small Bar, which also has a little shop. This is five minutes in the car or a healthy 20 minute walk.
