Peace and quiet is guaranteed as the cottage is located in our privately owned 200 acre woodland, through which guests have the freedom to wander. The Black Mountains are at your doorstep, offering fantastic walking country with breath-taking views across the Brecon Beacons, Radnorshire hills and across to the English borders. Explore the local town of Hay on Wye, famous for its individual boutiques and countless bookshops. Choose from a great range of pubs or restaurants to dine before making your way back to Cefn y Waun to relax in the deep bathtub or in the cosy lounge in front of the wood burning stove, maybe with a glass of wine.
An optional extra is our log fired cedar hot tub. Situated at the front of the cottage with the breathtaking views of the black mountains in front of you there is no better way to relax. The Hot tub is available for hire throughout the year for just £54.95 per visit.
Your hot tub will be prepared and waiting for you upon arrival. There are no nasty chemicals in our tub just clean fresh water which is naturally changed for each guest. The booking fee of £55 includes three crates of wood and a crate of kindling. This will be enough wood to get the hot tub up to temperature and then provide a further use the next day. Additional crates of wood are available to pre-order at £13 a crate. How much wood you will use depends on the amount of time you use the tub and the gap between each session. The tub has an insulated cover to help keep the temperature in when not in use.

This was our 4th visit to the cottage in the woods and we never get bored of the total peacefulness. The woods are perfect to walk the dogs in and they absolutely loved it. It’s the perfect break to get away and just relax. We’ll certainly be back next year😊🐾

Perfect Seclusion!
Our second time at Cefn Y Waun and unlikely to be our last!
The cottage is located in the middle of private woodland which spans 200 acres, delivering seclusion, peace and quiet and a total digital detox (we didn't even turn the TV on!).
There has been some arboricultural work done over the summer but this has all occurred away from the cottage. We saw nobody in the woods whilst we were there. We did, however, get the opportunity to see a resident nest of Swallows fledge on the second day we were there!
The best thing for us was that our adult daughter, who is autistic and struggles with unknown people, was able to walk her dog in the woods at any time of day with a level of independence that she does not get at home.
The cottage is close enough to Hay on Wye (4 miles) that you can access all you need, but far enough away that you won't be disturbed. Also, shout out to Suzie who manages the property and really could not have been more helpful!

Fantastic Break away
We were looking for somewhere isolated and peaceful and we could not have asked for a more perfect place.
We went on plenty of lovely walks. The scenery was stunning. We did struggle to find the waterfall but that was more to do with our map skills.
In the evening we spent most of our time outside looking at the stars, watching the bats, playing games and making good use of the hot tub.
We were very lucky with warm weather but we all said that we would love to visit the cottage in the winter.
If you are looking a break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and want time to recharge your batteries I would highly recommend visiting the cottage in the woods.

Awesome
If you like to get away from it all, this place is for you! Ten minutes from the road along a gravel track through woodland you arrive at the cottage. Which is exactly what i expected,traditional and comfortable.The woods,which are private and full of wildlife are all yours to explore.The only problem was i couldn't stay longer.

Perfect
What a fantastic five days. So peaceful, with amazing scenery and plenty of fab woodland walks. Our dogs especially enjoyed the waterfall.
The cottage is beautifully presented, well equipped and very comfortable. All I would have liked is a longer stay!

What a lovely spot and so quiet
Cefn y waun is a lovely house in a prefect location, we have just had a week there and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, there is a vast amount of different wildlife in the woods surrounding the house including deer, foxes and a number of rare birds . The house was nicely presented and an ideal location for a family or couple wanting a get away from it all holiday.

Perfect family getaway
Had an amazing three days at this beautiful cottage. Beds extremely comfortable, kitchen well equipped and cottage spotless. The view was phenomenal. I spent a lot of time just looking at the mountains. We had lovely woodland walks and spent evenings chatting and giggling in the hot tub. Would definitely love to visit again

A perfect pet-friendly, wi-fi free, comfortable and secluded Cottage in the Woods.
My dog needed to get away from the fireworks as he suffers severely from PTSD. So, I scoured the country and found this beautiful cottage, hidden in the depth of Wales, which is all it claims to be. The surrounding private wood is magical, and we walked and walked, only to come home to a cosy wood-burning fire. My two youngest grandchildren joined me for a couple of days, and they too were totally enthralled by this unique experience. Without wi-fi, radio and a tv (we could not get to work), we experienced a very unusual blissful silence, curiously embellished by the sounds of rain and a howling wind. We played games and sat in total silence reading our books. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds super comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the living room very cosy. All in all, we had a perfect start to 2023! Most important of all, my dog loved it.
Suzie B is also most welcoming and helpful in answering any queries. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for peace and quiet. I will certainly visit again.

Far from the madding crowd…
Myself and two friends stayed in this charming rural cottage recently and the views are stunning of the black mountains in front of the property. There are lovely woodland walks to take from the cottage, but there are some hills to climb. The feature hot tub needs newspaper/kindling & wood, so please ensure you have all these items. The cottage itself could do with a thorough clean and re-paint, but the beds and linen were clean & comfy. Great views from inside sitting around the log burner too. Very quiet and lovely just to sit and listen to the birds.
