Amazing villa with stunning views out to sea
Well I’ve had a week at Sophias’s house and as soon as I stepped over the threshold and saw the amazing views out to sea I was thinking what more do We need!! Somewhere nice to sleep and cook is all I need!!! Lovely spacious kitchen with all appliances you need- even had a dishwasher!!! Lovely large comfortable sofa and modern tv and DVD player. Plenty of reading material if u like to read as well. Bedrooms are great - each one has air conditioning and a separate ceiling fan. Plenty of drawer and wardrobe space too. Pool is great- just what u need after a warm day. We kept getting in and out all day!! We hired a car as the villa is a mile uphill from the local village, and my son doesn’t do exercise lol. They have plenty of shops & restaurants and a gorgeous Italian ice cream shop-Mia’s !! The beaches are beautiful, some Sandy some pebbly so invested in beach shoes if going into the sea! Great place for snorkelling. This is a great villa with stunning views and we have already booked to come again next year and share with some of my family!! This place is a jewel in Aspro village-come and discover it!!

Quiet and relaxing with great views all around
We spent 10 nights here, 2 adults and 2 children. The villa is as described with good sized bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, air con in all bedrooms and the main sitting area (all individually controlled), the air con is really needed in the evenings/nights during the summer months. The pool is not the biggest but served our needs well. A good sized modern TV and decent wifi meant we could watch programmes via the Firestick we took with us, there are some satellite programmes available, and a dvd player. There are quite a few books and dvds in the villa already, as well as some board games. Covid was taken account of with handwash and masks supplied, if you happened to have forgotten to supply your own. The outside seating area is large enough, with shade available if required. The sun beds are good quality. The roof terrace is large with great views, but it was too hot for us to spend time up there really. Minor point alert.....some of the vegetation to the left of the property is now partly obscuring the view of some of the sea when sitting at the outside table so if allowed I'd be tempted to strim some of that back, but as I say it's a minor point and there is still plenty to look out at. The binoculars that have been left at the villa are also a useful nice touch. We didn't hire a car so walked into Almyrida each day, the walk is via the main road and took around 20 mins on the way down, and around 25 on the way back. It's all uphill on the way back, so may be a struggle for some, but a taxi would cost only 7 euros. There is a small supermarket and a bakery as soon as you enter the town via the main road. The road wasn't busy so we never felt unsafe walking. Almyrida is a fairly small resort but has plenty of very good restaurants and a safe beach. We got a taxi transfer from Chania airport which took around 35mins. We also took a bus trip to Chania which is a good day trip to take, the cost was around 3 euros each, each way. There's only one bus a day though so check out the times. Ruth was very helpful with any queries we had, and always replied very promptly. She was also very flexible with the arrangements we had due to the covid travel uncertainty, which we thought showed great customer service.

POOL NOT HEATED AS ADVERTISED!!
Husband booked this villa with heated pool which was main reason for choosing this property, the pool was cold only 20 degrees and not 26-28. The pool heat exchange was turned off & turned on after 6 days, once on, the villa electrics kept tripping and we had to reset them a few times a day which we did inform the maintenance company but showed no interest. In addition, the fridge/freezer leaked every day & we had to place towels on floor to stop slip hazard which upon reading the Visitors Book this was reported in 2016!! The air conditioning unit pipes flowed directly onto patio outside causing slip hazard also. We had to place buckets underneath pipe outlets to avoid major accidents. The double bedroom patio door didn't lock & we again reported this as had to keep shutter down for security which again was reported & no interest was made. On a positive side, this villa is in a super location with stunning views across the bay. There is parking for a small car but we had to reverse 60ft to turn as no turning space on property. The villa was extremely peaceful but overlooked on the roof terrace. We reported these issues directly to host but passed the buck to property management team who were not interested. We would not recommend this villa to our family or friends.

A problem with the pool heating was reported to us on the Sunday 15th September. The engineer was notified and Monday morning (16th of September) the heating was back on and has been working perfectly ever since. We do not charge anything extra for the pool heating; the problem was fixed promptly, once we were notified. We feel it was unfair to claim compensation or “review accordingly” The pool is heated to a temperature of 26-28` the same as most public swimming pools, the unit will only come on when the temperature drops below 26`c. Thank you for nice comments about the extremely peaceful villa, super location and stunning views across the bay. Sorry you were not happy with your stay, but as a gesture of goodwill, we would be happy to offer you a generous discount on any future booking.

A villa with most amazing view
We booked villa for 3 weeks, pictures are a true reflection or accommodation. Villa is off the beaten track and we would say a car is necessary really. Pool is a good size and refreshing on a hot day. Lots of great places to visit and explore, some super beaches and places of interest. Pool is cleaned twice a week and linen changed weekly. Ruth was a great host and very easy to book with. The only reason we are not giving full stars is due to the neighbour, he pretty much wanted silence which is difficult with teenagers and a 4 year old! Fabulous and would recommend property though. Picture is view of sunrise from villa.

True relaxation
Stayed at this lovely villa in 2016, when coming for a surprise visit for a family members birthday. A good size and comfortably furnished, with superb views, and in a peaceful location, we had a truly relaxing time. Loved the pool and just sitting looking out across the bay! We did have a hire car which we used to explore the area, but did also walk into Almyrida too. We will certainly be back sometime, soon hopefully!!

Lovely views and super pool
We stayed for 2 weeks the heated pool and the views were the highlights for us brand new Weber BBQ was great. Lots of great restaurants nearby and a mice walk along the donkey trail to another little village Gavalchori also Kalyves is good. Well equipped and everything worked as it should would stay again if revisiting the area. Very private and relaxing and saw lots of wildlife on the short walk down the hill to the village eagles goats lizards. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and there is a taxi firm in the village to bring you back after your evening meal. Half a litre of wine 3 euros and a nice Italian ice cream shop in the village. Had a great holiday here also not far from Chania airport

Fantastic Villa in a beautiful location
We had a week in April 2017. Although the weather could've been a bit warmer (we took our chances in April!) we all enjoyed our time here very much. The villa is very comfortable and the views are beautiful - the kids enjoyed the pool which was plenty warm enough despite the often cooler air outside. Almyrida beach is not far away at all - when we ate their in the evenings we walked down and got a taxi back for 7 euros for the 4 of us We would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone, really couldn't have hoped for a better place to stay. Thanks to Ruth for a really great holiday and being very helpful with information prior to arrival.

Peaceful relaxation
Had a great week as two couples. Loved the peaceful location and views over Souda bay. A couple of minor mishaps were very quickly dealt with by the owners. Almyrida bay is a 20 minute walk downhill and a few euros cab fare back. The pool was lovely to cool down in when the heat got too much but the breezes up the hill kept us comfortable. Highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
Aspro Village Aspro is a traditional little hamlet, its elevated position on the hillside, looks down over Souda bay The village of Aspro and the surrounding area has plenty of greenery with many pine trees and olive groves. There are many different paths and sandy tracks to explore whilst out walking in the Aspro area. Almyrida Almyrida, a pretty seaside village is only a 3 minute drive from Sophia's House. It has blue flag sandy shallow beaches and a little fishing boat harbour. The beach is ideal for children and less confident swimmers, as it has shallow waters and a gently sloping sandy beach. Along the beachfront you find tavernas, supermarkets a bakery, gift shops, bars and cafes. On the beach in Almyrida you will find the water sports centre, here you can try windsurfing or sailing a catamaran, or just paddle about in a kayak! There is also scuba diving available in Almyrida. Just a short drive from Sophia's house is a wide selection of archaeological places to visit, like Aptera, with its Turkish fortress that can be seen from the villa. There are also many small villages to visit in the area some with craft centres and museums telling the stories of village life through the ages. There is lace making in Gavalohori, silk making in Kalamitsi and the glass blowing workshop in Kokkino Horio is well worth a visit just to see the stunning creations from the recycled beer bottles. If you’re looking for something a little more lively, then Chania is only half an hour’s drive away!

How to get there
Chania airport is 35 mins drive, Heraklion airport is 1 hour and 45 mins drive approx. Ryan Air have started cheap flights direct to Chania Airport, other airlines to consider EasyJet, and many others including Thomas Cook and Thompson.
