Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Standout in every way
Standout in every way The moment we pulled up to the house we knew we were in love! What a first impression. You literally drive up to the house on the hill that overlooks a loch! Doesn’t get more romantic than that! Once we did a walk around the very generous garden and took a walk to the bay, we entered the house and were literally gobsmacked. The interior is a dream come true. The huge open space that comprises of the kitchen, dining and living room looks out over the bay and on a sunny day, that view will have you mesmerised for a long long time. The kitchen is every chefs dream. The appliances are top end, the layout superb and equipped with every possible utensil etc you could ever need! Loved the en-suite bedroom downstairs. Perfect for elderly or mobility impaired guests that can’t climb the stairs. The rest of the bedrooms upstairs all face the bay and again, you could get lost in the views from up there. Heavy dark out curtains make sleeping in the summer easy and the beds are comfy. Bathrooms are all brilliant as well. We had a bottle of wine, home made chocolate brownies (demolished them the same day!) and some gorgeous hand picked flowers waiting for us on arrival. What a lovely touch! The outside area is spacious and well equipped. We had some very good weather so used the patio area quite a lot. All overlooking the bay (of course). We felt entirely spoilt being here. The house is a gem and could not have asked for a better location. Only 30 mins to Oban so we could get to the ferries without too much hassle to visit the surrounding islands. The digital information guide that Rory sent on confirmation of booking is a veritable treasure trove of useful information. Made the entire stay so much easier as literally every single question you might have, has been answered in detail in said guide (incl a chapter on midges!!) All in all, I can’t praise this house enough! Thank you Rory and Jennie for making this splendid house available for visitors to this beautiful part of the world to enjoy!

I am so glad you enjoyed your time here and I am sure your review will help others who may be considering a stay in this part of Argyll and in particular Fearnach Bay House.

Fearnach House - Terrific holiday home
We stayed for a week in Fearnach House with its stunning situation and view right on Loch Melfort. The house is extremely comfortable, superb for a large party and pretty much every room has a glorious view of the Loch, one of Scotland’s most beautiful. There cannot be many houses in Britain with such an aspect. Rory and Jennie are fantastic hosts; they have thought of pretty much everything to make one’s stay enjoyable, from the flowers welcoming you in the house to the sensible instructions of how to use the rowing boat, good maps and advice for walks etc. The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in; huge amounts of space, good kit and anything further required, Jennie was happy to bring round. Our stay in late May / early June was truly sun drenched, with the odd rain squall and jumpers required in the evening. Lots of great walks, though footpaths can take time to identify. A highly recommended area and home.

Stunning house and location
A beautiful setting and wonderfully equipped house with every need catered for. The wildlife and night sky were a delight. The ground floor bedroom and bathroom with shower chair and toilet seat raiser were ideal for wheelchair users. Rory and his brother-in-law John were extremely helpful assisting us with our departure, for which we were very grateful. Just perfect. We will be back.

Stunning home and location for family holidays
Fearnach Bay House is a perfectly designed home for families to enjoy. All bedrooms face the Loch and the downstairs areas provide a really relaxed day to day living area and a space to relax and enjoy the magnificent views. We loved our time there and would return in a heartbeat. Rory was a fantastic host and very attentive.

A fantastic house in a fantastic location. Cannot recommend enough.
It truly is the best house in the best location in Argyll, and we have just had another fun filled, fantastic and relaxing family holiday in this beautiful house and place. And, there are so many beautiful and interesting places to see in Argyll, that you are spoiled for choice. Fearnach Bay House is always spotlessly clean everywhere, top to bottom, and all the appliances and equipment work. I can assure you that you need not worry about coronavirus here because the risk is zero. The owners, who live nearby, are meticulous about hygiene and maintaining their beautiful house to the highest standards. They are lovely genuine people who make everyone feel welcome and really care that guests enjoy their stay. The house is warm, comfortable, light, airy and fresh with ample room for everyone and feels like a real home from home. It is also good value for money as it sleeps seven to eight people. If you would like to see the real Scotland without hordes of tourists, come here to Fearnach Bay House. You will not be disappointed. It is on a private estate, on a tarmac, single track, dead end road, but it is not isolated. You can walk in the beautiful hills behind the house and fish for mackerel from the red dingy in Loch Melfort, the sea loch in front of the house. Nature is all a round and you do not have to leave the house to see it. From the bay window you can watch gannets patrol the loch and then dive into the loch for fish and if you sit quietly with the lights out you will usually see the pine martin skirt the beech hedge and cross the lawn most evenings around 20.45. And from the glazed door to the patio you can see buzzards and last year we also saw a white tailed, eagle. We are a family of three generations, eight, in total, including two teenagers and this has been our fourth successive year of enjoying a wonderful relaxing and fun holiday here. We are not the only “returners” either there are many and some have been coming back for much longer than us, as the Visitors Book will attest and one person’s recent entry simply said: THIS IS THE BEST HOUSE IN SCOTLAND. PERIOD! The capital letters and exclamation mark are theirs’ and ‘period’ was in bold. Everyone, of all ages, really love it and you will too. That is a promise.

Christmas at Fearnach bay house
Our 5th Christmas at Fearnach bay house, it is such a beautiful home where we feel very relaxed and comfortable! We were lucky enough this year to watch an otter literally in the shoreline in front of the house, it was fishing and bringing the fish out of the water to eat and than back into the water playing. We could highly recommend paying this beautiful part of Scotland and house a visit.

Our Perfect Stay at Fearnach Bay House
We stayed at Fearnach Bay House for the forth time already. Being big Scotland fans for more than 25 years and big admirers of the Argyll area, we tried to spot the most lovely and luxurious places all over Scotland. Some years ago, we finally managed to find "our place", literally a place where we "come home" every time when we visit Scotland - Fearnach Bay House. The house is beyond amazing, it's really perfect. All of it. It's very spacious (definitely for the two of us :-) ) lovely furnished with so much love in the detail. Very clean of course and perfectly equipped - in the kitchen, the bathrooms, the living areas, etc. Truly a gem with all luxury one could wish for. I'm always in frequent contact with Rory and Jennie before and after our stays - which I really appreciate. To be taken care of in such a professional and wonderful way, that's how it should be. The evening when we arrived, some gifts, cake and lovely flowers all over within the house gave us a very warm welcome - as always. At no time during our stay (and before, after) we did not feel home and being part of the "Fearnach Bay House" family. We can only recommend Fearnach Bay House and provide the highest praise. We will definitely and anyhow come back next year and are already looking forward to it! Actually I should not praise the place with so much excitement ... to make sure it's not always booked out ... and we'll have our 2019 stay for sure ;-))) Just kidding. If you're visiting Scotland/Argyll and you're looking for a house to stay - this is the place. Perfect. Period. Thanks for everything! All the best wishes, Nik & Tabea

Spacious, comfortable and warm house with wonderful views
This is our second stay at Fearnach Bay House, and it did not disappoint second time around. It is beautifully kept by the owners, and is spacious, warm and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and there is plenty of room to dry wet clothes and shoes in the adjoining washroom. In fact it has everything you need after a long scottish walk in the rain or a spell on a boat visiting the nearby islands.
