Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Great for a short cosy autumn break
Lovely little cottage (a little too small for the 5 of us but ok for a few days). Cosy and well equipped including outdoor furniture. Owners were friendly and attentive but not invasive. Included cot, high-chair and a few toys for kids. Good internet connection. Garden was a little small and shower flow a little week. But that's nit-picking - overall it was great.

Ken and Helen’s fabulous stay at The Old Post Office.
This is one of the nicest cottages we have ever been to. On arrival when we opened the door our host Sandra had left us a beautiful bunch of flowers along with a lovely bottle of wine. The place was spotlessly clean. Just home from home with every possible gadget in the kitchen. Nothing was too much trouble for both Sandra and her husband Nick. When we needed directions Nick was there to supply them and happy to suggest places of interest. An absolutely amazing break. If we are back in the area we will definitely be staying here.

Beautiful cottage
We stayed for 1 week in August, our 2nd visit to the old post office. Nick and sandra are wonderful hosts and always a warm welcome. Thorpe bassett is a great location for visiting places in north Yorkshire. The cottage itself is immaculate and has everything you need for your stay. There are lovely views from the garden. There are 2 pubs and a fish and chip shop and a village store about a 15 minute walk in nearby rillington. Had a great week at the old post office , absolutely perfect !!

A brilliant cottage in an ideal location for a total Get Away from it all holiday.
Located in the lovely rural village of Thorpe Bassett in North Yorkshire with easy access to the towns of Malton and Pickering along with many surrounding villages and the main coastal resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby. Close to a number of attractions including North Yorkshire Steam Railway, Eden Camp, Flamingo Land and Castle Howard.
The Old Post Office is exceptionally clean and well furnished and has a particularly comfortable bed. It is well equipped with everything needed for a restful holiday or a short break at any time of the year. The lovely owners Sandra and Nick are very welcoming, readily offering a sound knowledge of the local area and are on hand if you need any advice. We had a great week with fantastic weather and are very much looking forward to returning again.
Many thanks from Myra and Rob, Warwick, Warwickshire

Perfect Cottage in a Beautiful Setting
My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Old Post Office Cottage. What a wonderful time we have had. The cottage and gardens are immaculate and there are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The owners Nick and Sandra, who live next door, are friendly and are there if needed for advice. Thorpe Bassett is an ideal base for visiting the North Yorkshire Moors and the East Yorkshire Coast, York itself is not far away. There are plenty of excellent places to eat out and about in the area.

Staycation 5*
Hello my name's tom and we are from devon. My wife booked this place. We have had the best time. We usually go to greece in September but because of covid ,not this year. But coming here has definitely felt like a proper holiday. This accommodation is absolutely stunning and by far the cleanest we have ever stayed in!!!! Everything is so comfy and cozy and with a open fire ,We have thoroughly enjoyed. Driving around the moors, going to the yorkshire dales, filey, castle Howard and goathland to see the real heart beat area!
We are definitely coming here again at some point. Maybe in the winter as I bet it would be wonderful in the snow.
