Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Beautiful cottage
We stayed for 1 week in August, our 2nd visit to the old post office. Nick and sandra are wonderful hosts and always a warm welcome. Thorpe bassett is a great location for visiting places in north Yorkshire. The cottage itself is immaculate and has everything you need for your stay. There are lovely views from the garden. There are 2 pubs and a fish and chip shop and a village store about a 15 minute walk in nearby rillington. Had a great week at the old post office , absolutely perfect !!

A brilliant cottage in an ideal location for a total Get Away from it all holiday.
Located in the lovely rural village of Thorpe Bassett in North Yorkshire with easy access to the towns of Malton and Pickering along with many surrounding villages and the main coastal resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby. Close to a number of attractions including North Yorkshire Steam Railway, Eden Camp, Flamingo Land and Castle Howard. The Old Post Office is exceptionally clean and well furnished and has a particularly comfortable bed. It is well equipped with everything needed for a restful holiday or a short break at any time of the year. The lovely owners Sandra and Nick are very welcoming, readily offering a sound knowledge of the local area and are on hand if you need any advice. We had a great week with fantastic weather and are very much looking forward to returning again. Many thanks from Myra and Rob, Warwick, Warwickshire

Perfect Cottage in a Beautiful Setting
My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Old Post Office Cottage. What a wonderful time we have had. The cottage and gardens are immaculate and there are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The owners Nick and Sandra, who live next door, are friendly and are there if needed for advice. Thorpe Bassett is an ideal base for visiting the North Yorkshire Moors and the East Yorkshire Coast, York itself is not far away. There are plenty of excellent places to eat out and about in the area.

Staycation 5*
Hello my name's tom and we are from devon. My wife booked this place. We have had the best time. We usually go to greece in September but because of covid ,not this year. But coming here has definitely felt like a proper holiday. This accommodation is absolutely stunning and by far the cleanest we have ever stayed in!!!! Everything is so comfy and cozy and with a open fire ,We have thoroughly enjoyed. Driving around the moors, going to the yorkshire dales, filey, castle Howard and goathland to see the real heart beat area! We are definitely coming here again at some point. Maybe in the winter as I bet it would be wonderful in the snow.

The Perfect Getaway
An idyllic holiday cottage situated in a quiet village within easy reach of York and the Yorkshire coastline. The cottage is beautiful and furnished with everything you could want from jacuzzi bath, dishwasher, Bose sound system and for those that want it Netflix and WiFi. Sandra and Nick were excellent hosts and couldn’t have done more for us. The wine, flowers and sweets for the kids are a lovely touch. We have thoroughly enjoyed our week with you and will definitely be back. Thank you.

Fabulous Covid getaway!
Just on our way home from a fabulous getaway at the old post office. The cottage is a beautifully quaint, peaceful haven for the perfect break from Covid 19 and daily life stresses. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again. The bottle of wine, flowers and biscuits on arrival marked the perfect start and the tassimo machine meant we could treat ourselves to a hot chocolate out in the back garden watching the beautiful cows run in their field (we purchased hot chocolate pods but coffee and tea was provided). Everything was very clean and the owners had gone the extra mile to ensure your safety- even down to arm chair covers (very cute covered with ducks) that can be washed In between users. And from a personal point of view, I love that the owners pre foil-lined baking trays for us! We both enjoyed the jacuzzi bath after our days spent walking in the moors and toiletries were provided. The kitchen had everything you could need to cook for yourselves and there was access to Netflix if you did just want to chill. The bed was comfy, sofas were comfy, loved that there was a dining table so when we were in to eat dinner, we could sit at the table, enjoy our dinner and bottle of wine with the candles lit on the window sills. As desperate as I was to light the fire, the weather was just too mild to justify it, but all the logs and fire lighters were provided should you wish to do so. In terms of what is nearby, Malton was a 15 minute drive and had plenty of pubs and cafes as well as a Lidl and morrisons. We visited York and utilised the nearby park and ride as well as visiting Whitby, both less than an hours drive from the cottage. We also did the wainstones way which is an 8 mile circular walk in the north of the moors as well as walking another 8 mile circular from robin hoods bay to ravenscar. Back again to the cottage, there is a walk you can do straight out the cottage and turn an immediate right and you can head over to the lavender fields (unfortunately closed by the time we got there at 6!) and about 45 minutes walk away is a really cute bakery in scampston serving predominantly pastries as well as coffee where you can sit outside and eat/drink. We didn’t eat in either of the nearby pubs or fish and chips shop so can’t comment there unfortunately. Really lovely getaway and would highly recommend :)

Pefect cosy cottage
From the very moment we arrived until the moment we left we really enjoyed this cottage. A lovely warm welcome from Sandra and Nick and the added extras in the cottage a bonus, including sweets for Freya! The cottage was superbly equipped with everything you may require and more. We were very sad to leave yesterday, but am almost certain we will return. Thank you to you both.
