Michael has done an amazing job renovating this medieval property and conserving the old world charm while bringing in all the modern conveniences. We enjoyed a beautiful "welcome" dinner the first night and discovered that Michael's skill in the kitchen matches his decorating talents. A wonderful host, he escorted us along with another guest to the first night of the...

Our room has a beautiful view of Assisi. Michael is a wonderful host with lots of suggestions and was willing to guide us wherever we wanted. The cooking lesson was fun. The wine tasting was awesome. We can't wait to go back.

Palazzo Perfetto Our family of four visited Palazzo Fiumi for six days in June and knew instantly that it would be the most memorable part of our trip. Michael is a wonderful host and graciously shared his love of art, cooking and the sites of Umbria with us. He prepared a fabulous vegetarian meal for our arrival and suggested wonderful...

Additional amenities & feature info
The palazzo was restored and opened in 2008. There are many stone walls with rustic beamed ceilings and complemented by beautiful Mission style furnishings . The rooms are spacious, the kitchen (with marble counters) has everything you will need to prepare full meals, the beds are comfortable with beautiful linens and soft towels, and the bathroom has a full tub/show combination. From the windows the entire Spoleto Valley opens ups with Assisi, Mount Subasio, and the Apennines in the distance. Sunrises are breathtakingly beautiful. The apartment exudes comfort.

About the neighbourhood
Bettona is a small hill town, originally an Etruscan settlement, is completely surrounded by walls — both Etruscan and medieval. Located within 15 kilometers of both Perugia and Assisi and convenient to the highways that ring Umbria. The Perugia/Assisi airport (now called San Francesco) is serviced by RyanAir and only 25 minutes away.
Bettona is a remarkably tranquil spot with about 350 people living within the walls and about 3500 residents in the Comune (comprised of 4 'frazione'). A morning walk around the walls is a wonderful way to start the day here, followed by a cappuccino and dolce in the bar in the main piazza, and then off for an excursion to one of the many small towns nearby.
There are two restaurants in town, a small archeological and painting museum (a lovely Perug...

How to get there
Railway: Assisi: 15.0 km
The closest large airport is Rome's Fiumicino. There is also the small international airport (served by RyanAir) of Perugia/Assisi (now San Francesco). It is about 25 minutes away.

TRAIN: It is easy to take a train from the airport. You will need to transfer in Rome for a train to Assisi. Or, you can pick up a rental car at Perugia or Foligno.

CAR: Most guests rent a car and drive to me.
Head in the direction of Rome and the road will turn into the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare), which is a ring road around Rome. You are looking for the A1 to Firenze (Florence). Exit at uscita 10, but 8, 9, and 10 all have the same exit. Keep heading for Firenze / A1 and get a ticket. This much should have taken you about 40 minutes.
Once on the A1 you drive for about 25 minutes and exit at ORT...
