Renovated only a year ago the Boat House has kept some of its original features, including a beamed ceiling, original Coastguard Boat house rigging and a 1880s window. It has all modern conveniences - and a brand new extra long 'hand made in Belfast bed' to ensure the only thing keeping you awake is the sound of the sea.
On your door step are sea wrecks, and children catered to with toys, nets and ofcourse a bucket and spade. A sea path takes you to a play ground and to The White House, an open museum - one of the oldest buldings in NI. You are also less than ten minutes from Carrickfergus Castle and five minutes from Belfast Castle and the famous Cavehill.
This is a unique experience for couples and families.

What a place!!! Perfect location for us and an incredible transformation of a historic property.
Right on the coastal path for great morning walks.
Easy for local shops, dining etc. Fantastically comfortable bed, great shower and kitchen. Just sit and enjoy the uninterrupted view of the comings and goings on Belfast Lough. What more could you want. A solid 10/10 all round and
Carol, your *host' could not be more welcoming and helpful. Will surely be back.

A little piece of heaven
Myself and partner stayed at the boathouse for a 2 night shift break mid November. This was a lovely gesture by Carol (the owner) who offered a member of NHS staff a 2 night stay. This was at the beginning of the pandemic. Carol wanted to say thanks to our NHS staff and I was utterly delighted to be chosen. She was also so generous and had prosecco chilling in the fridge for us. The Boathouse really is a little piece of paradise. The view from the window is just stunning. The accommodation is done do tastefully and so sympathetically. It is super modern, cosy, and romantic whilst still retaining so many original features and nods to the fact that it was an old boathouse. The bed is super super comfortable and I slept the best I have in ages! The shower is heavenly! This little place is a real home from home and there is nothing that you will need here that you cannot find. There is plenty of crockery, plates, cookware and glasses. Unfortunately we never got to use the lovely outdoor space as the weather wasn't great but I can just imagine how blissful it would be on a warm summer evening sat sipping a glass of wine. When we arrived, Carol had the boathouse all Christmasy with garlands and lovely lights. It all added to the romance of it.
The local village is a mere 4 minute walk away and there are a number of really lovely restaurants and bars there. We ate the first night in Sipster which isa wine bar with a real difference!!! A visit here is a must. Our 2nd day we took the 6 minute stroll to the train station and another 19 minutes later we were in Belfast City centre! We had a wonderful day in the Christmas markets. The location of the boathouse is absolutely perfect. You have stuff right on your doorstep with the pleasure of the city centre only 20 mins away. We are a bit sad that we never brought our bikes as a cycle along the promenade would have been beautiful.
If you are thinking of visiting the boathouse, do not hesitate.
Carol has excellent measures in place to minimise risks of covid transmission. You can see she has taken it very seriously and you will be very very safe here. 11 out of 10 from us and we will definitely be back. I cannot thank Carol enough for being so generous and kind.

Beautiful stay
My wife and 2 year old stayed here mid September, although I was familiar with the area during my uni days we had no idea this little gem existed!
Clean, tidy, wonderfully laid out & sunsets over the Lough to die for. Thanks again

Holiday
The Boat House is lovely. It's right on Belfast Lough, on the beach which is washed by the tides.
The Boathouse is fully equipped.
It's close to trains and buses, restaurants and the magnificent Northern Ireland coast.
Oh and I could take my dog Nikki.
We loved it.

Fabulous Place!
This place is in a great location, right on the Lough Shore, it has lovely views, and is fantastically peaceful. A short walk along the coastline takes you to the local bars and restaurants. The Boat House itself is very well equipped and comfortable. It has a lovely decor and has been sympathetically and tastefully renovated with original features still in place. A nice homely feel. Would definitely recommend. 😀

Attention to detail
We had a great time at the boathouse. The location and facilities were as described. They were clean and organized. Carol, the proprietor, was very helpful and had thought of everything we might need (and many things we might have forgotten!).

A Boathouse transformed to a lovely comfortable holiday let
The comfortable and cosy Whiteabbey Boathouse right on Loughshore was far more spacious than I had imagined and so full of character. Comfortable, beautifully decorated and furnished with so many extra little touches that made it an exceptional place to stay.
I found it interesting to read the history of the Boathouse (a booklet provided by the owners) and look around to see all the original pieces that were incorporated into the renovation plans.
The location is great for exploring the north coast and so close to Belfast too with shops, restaurants and bars just a short walk away. So much to see and do that 3days wasn’t enough. We hope to return again next year

Whiteabbey is a historical village, once home to the harbour where linen was traded. There are local attractions within walking distance including The White House - one of the oldest buildings in N Ireland, and right outside the Boat House door is the old linen pier and ship wrecks which you can explore at high tide. The Coastal walk, the Boat House is located on, is a 40 minute walk which takes in the country and urban coast, it offers a view of Holywood and the famous Belfast Cranes. You can cycle on the path right into the city centre in about 40 minutes. The Boat house is less than five minute walk away from the village of Jordanstown with several restaurants, bars and supermarket.
Getting around
A bus stop is right outside the door with frequent bus service to Belfast City Centre (20 minutes) or Carrickfergus (ten minutes). In less than five minutes you can walk to Whiteabbey station and two stops (five minutes) via rail takes you into the City Centre. If you want to go the Giant's Causeway then a 40 minute scenic train journey will take you there.

How to get there
