Roserigg is stuated in the quiet village of Smithfield in N Cumbria close to the Borders and North Pennines and the Solway Estuary. It is roughly equidistant between market towns Longtown and Brampton and is only 6 miles from the flourishing city of Carlisle. We are the ideal location to explore the local area or for a short stay on business. The North lakes are only a 30minute drive from here. There is plenty to see from country walks along the Roman Wall, to retail therapy in Carlisle or Gretna Green. The area is steeped in history with many sites worth a visit and stories abound of the marauding 'Reivers' who lived either side of the Scottish border The location of this cottage is ideal to visit many of these places. Lovely quiet location very close to Hadrians Wall [which was amazing] Gretna Green and Carlisle. Alan and Elisabeth gave us a very warm welcome and very kindly got us some milk [no shop in village] so we could have a cup of tea on arrival...More

Gretna green, Hadrians wall, The Solway coast The Eden valley and the North Lakes. All within easy reach of your base. Carlisle is an excellent place to shop it has a Castle and Cathedral. Well worth a visit.
The Scottish border at Gretna is only about 8 miles away, with the Devils porridge museum just up the road. A very varied change in the countryside can be found by just exploring this area, with plenty of history to tell.
Getting around
With excellent access to the M6 motoway south or the M74 North it is very easy to visit many places from this base. We are very happy to provide local knowledge of the area should this be required.
