About the neighbourhood
A very ordinary area of working people and small business owners, who tend to mind their own business but will help each other when required. Populated by teachers, operational managers and lower middle-income earners. Families are young to maturing with few geriatrics. Two schools nearby, both private. Mosque nearby and a small non-descript church building. The area is very mixed and displays signs of Apartheid history, which is obvious in the buildings in surrounding roads. All "races" and many religions/cultures live here, as well as many nationalities. Shopping for daily necessities is easy and public transport is nearby.
Getting around
Public taxi and busses all converge at Wetton Circle, 10 minute walk away. Other busses stop outside Spar supermarket, which is 4 minute walk from the house. Public transport stops after around 8pm, when Uber taxi is needed. Train stations are a bit further and guests do not generally use them. If you use public transport, bus and train are the usual options. However, hiring your own car is most convenient, especially if your time is limited.

How to get there
From Cape Town International Airport you can taxi directly, cost R200 one way. If you hire your own vehicle: - Exit airport and turn towards the mountain, on the N2 highway. - Drive for about 10 minutes left turn off (Jan Smuts Drive - M17). - Continue on Jan Smuts Drive ; cross major traffic intersections until you reach intersection with Govan Mbeki Road (previously Lansdowne Road). Turn right and drive towards Wetton Circle. Then left into Old Strandfontein Road. Turn right at first stop street (Spar a landmark) into Shaftesbury Crescent, immediate right and again immediate right into Theal, then right in Aylesbury Crescent. My house has balcony facing the mountain.
