About the neighbourhood
An ideal location for walkers and cyclists, close to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of England`s last wildernesses, with dark skies perfect for stargazing. Plenty of walks and nature reserves nearby. We've got Roman forts, castles, Durham Cathedral, and industrial heritage -Beamish is not too far.. The Mining Art Gallery is close by, or travel a little further to the Bowes Museum or The Sage in Gateshead. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, tea shops and an ice-cream parlour. Shopping ranges from the Metro Centre to antiques and vintage shops locally. Regular events include Lumiere, the Miners' Gala and Brass Festival, Durham Book Festival, Bishop Auckland Food Festival.
Getting around
Easy for cyclists and walkers locally. A car is recommended if you wish to travel more widely, although there is the nearby bus stop and train station if you wish to use public transport.
