2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5
Westgate, Durham, England
Traditional Weardale stone cottage is in a convenient village location and is an excellent base for exploring the north-east of England, including Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. The cottage is located in the village of Westgate, in beautiful and rugged Weardale, County Durham.

Please be aware that due to the age and construction of the cottage, whereby stone floors are laid directly onto the earth, the humidity levels are higher than in modern houses, and you may notice a slight musty smell as a result.

The cottage has a sheltered south-facing garden and off-road parking. The accommodation comprises one twin bedroom and one double bedroom with ensuite toilet and handbasin; separate shower room with toilet and handbasin, small kitchen with electric cooker, fridge, toaster, microwave and coffee machine, separate di...

myself, my partner and the little un stayed for two nights and only crossed the doors at feeding time (the weather was horrendous). with a bit more forward planning we could have brought everything with us, as the kitchen, although small, was perfect. a really chilled out place with a cracking woodburner and easy to use heating. will definitely stay...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

As a regular visitor to Weardale and the City of Durham, I was looking for a cottage between Wolsingham and St. John's Chapel as the towns and villages are closely compacted so you have a good range of places to visit all with differing amenities. This cottage's location was ideal with it being situated behind the main street in Westgate....

About the neighbourhood
Our cottage is located in Weardale, which is situated in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Upper Weardale valley in County Durham is a rugged area of countryside that is relatively unknown. With many similarities to the Yorkshire Dales, the Durham Dales including Weardale and Teesdale have a remote feel, and yet are only 30 miles from Newcastle, Durham, Hadrian's Wall, North Yorkshire and the Lake District.

Weardale is an excellent base for exploring the whole of Northumbria and the north-east of England. In the dale, there is great walking and many villages to explore. The award-winning museums of Killhope lead mining centre and Beamish outdoor museum are both accessible for fantastic days out.
