Mangoes is a large, detached, single storey house - (Built size = 2,000 sq Feet / Plot = 10,000 sq Feet). I have an ambition to put a sun deck on the roof where my husband and I (and our guests, of course) can relax whilst watching the setting sun wink green as it dips behind the Caribbean horizon .... dream .... dream. Back to the reality of now .... our house is very private, being set in large, lush tropical gardens with big gates (safe for children) opening out onto the local roadside at the front and onto the greenbelt and car park at the back. The back gate is the quickest route to the sea - literally 2 minutes saunter. Outdoor living in Barbados is a joy - the weather is so wonderful. To access the full enjoyment of the outdoors, Mangoes offers pure relaxation on the spacious veranda, furnished with up to date rattan-style set comprising a love-seat sofa, two arm chairs, coffee table and mamasan chair, a large dining table and six dining chairs. (The dining chairs also have arms, providing truly comfortable and relaxing seating for 11/12 persons! This is a superb situation to enjoy warm, velvety Caribbean nights, being well lit for reading and overlooking the front garden, pleasingly illuminated by well placed spotlights and an arch of fairy lights and flowers. By lunch time, the veranda is pleasantly shady so makes a good place to have a midday snack. A favourite dining area for breakfast is the gazebo, furnished with a stone table and benches, set in the rear gardens. Be prepared to share breakfast with tiny yellow banana birds! Right next to the gazebo is a sturdy, built in barbecue, with lighting to help keep your culinary efforts on track, and for more formal dining, there is a smart, well furnished "Al-fresco" dining room leading from the spacious lounge. The lounge is furnished with an attractive cane three, two, one suite, coffee table, occasional tables with lamps, telephone, TV cabinet with video, DVD player + multi choice TV, new flat-screen TV (installed Nov 2012) and book shelves. There are ceiling fans though this is a breezy room with three sets of French windows, one (double doors) lead into the "Al-fresco" dining room whilst the other two sets lead out onto the veranda. To maximise the breeze, rather than closing the glass doors, there are attractive, safe, lockable, wrought iron gates as an alternative. Mangoes has its own Wifi. Mangoes offers seven bed spaces in three spacious bedrooms: one twin/king - en suite, one twin/queen - en suite and one with three single beds - private bathroom a few steps away. The three bedded room can be made up as a double plus single and there is a fold-away cot. Each bedroom is equipped with wardrobes, full length mirrors, washing basket, bedside tables with lamps, hairdryer, ceiling fans and split system air conditioning included (no extra charge for this). The kitchen has smart white cupboards, beautiful, green/black, pearly granite counter tops, twin stainless steel sinks, track lighting and a brand new cooking stove with hood. It is well equipped, with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. It opens out through a half glazed door to the rear gardens and gazebo. There is also a wash room for guests use, under cover washing lines and tumble dryer (to keep the towels nice and soft). Mangoes comes with maid service twice per week (no extra charge for this). The maid will change and wash bed linen and towels, sweep and wash floors, clean bathrooms etc. Back outside, there is a car port with space for two cars and a further two could easily park on the drive. NB. The telephone makes free calls around the island. It is not possible to make off-island phone calls but it is possible to receive calls from abroad. Looking forward to hearing from you! Fantastic!
The photo's do not do this place justice. What a lovely home and wonderful hosts too. My friend lives in barbados and drove arond to the house to check it out before we booked. Cath and Ian happened to be there at the time and she was welcomed in and shown around. There was good friendly communication prior to our departure and we were greeted by the lovely staff on arrival. The maid came twice during our week stay and changed the bedding and towels. The house was spotless and so spacious. We loved relaxing on the decking. Everything was within minutes walk - fantastic restaurants, lovely pool, excellent supermarket, the lovely chattel house shopping village and of course the great beach! No need for a car - local buses run on the road nearby if you want to go further affield. We really did not want to leave at the end of our holiday and would definately book this place again on our next trip to barbados (and we are currently saving for that trip!). A special mention needs to be given to the maid who found some items we had left in a drawer after we left (including our car key). She and her family came out to the airport and got us paged in departures so they could return them to us before we left - no that's what I call service! Thank you again to Cath, Ian and all their friends in Barbados for a wonderful holiday.

It was nice to meet your friend and it would have been nicer to meet you too. We are very enthusiastic about Mangoes ourselves so it's always a treat to show it off and to share it. Very happy to know you had such an enjoyable stay. Thanks or your kind comments, Cath and Ian.

Excellent facilities in a beautiful safe setting
From the moment you arrive at Mangoes you will start to fall in love with it and appreciate the thought that gone in to providing guests with the facilities that will make their stay both enjoyable and hassle-free. On booking, Cath provided most useful information about travel and staying in the villa. On arrival, we were greeted and shown the facilities and security features. All rooms are delightfully decorated but you will not want to stay inside too long when staying at Mangoes which is set in a large and well maintained gated garden which provides a safe environment for children. The veranda was our favourite and we would eat our breakfast and evening meals there rather than the attractive dining room which I’m sure we would have used if there had been more than just the two of us. Birds joined us for breakfast and we would sit in the warmth of the evening reading and listening to the sounds of Barbados, drinking a glass or three of wine, and enjoying the well lit garden. Lunchtimes were sometimes spent in the attractive gazebo at the rear of the property. This provided both air and shade at the hottest time of the day. The villa is only a few minutes’ walk from the excellent supermarket, banks, fruit stalls, and tourist shops. There are a number of restaurants and take-aways within a 10 minute walk. Sandy beaches are accessible from just across the road as is the attractive club pool, sunbeds and facilities which are available without charges as part of the villa rental. The lockable gate at the rear of the property made access to the pool and beach extremely easy and fellow sunbathers were envious of our location. Holetown is also in a good location for exploring the island and the villa contains a host of leaflets to give ideas where to go. Marsha, the friendly and delightful maid serviced the villa twice during the week we were staying and was there to say goodbye when we left.

Spacious and Comfortable
We really enjoyed our stay at Mangoes villa - we had lots of space both indoors and outdoors to relax and be comfortable. The home is situated in a very convenient location to groceries, restaurants, transportation, and of course the beaches.

Great House, Great Service
My wife and I stayed 6 days at Mangoes in Holetown, Barbados. When coming back to Barbados we will certainly try to rent this house again. It is very comfortable, the location is perfect (close to shops, beach and poool), it has a big garden and a delicious veranda for sitting and meals. The communication with the owner and her staff was perfect and they tried to give us a maximum on service.

Good times at Mangoes
Just returned from a week stay at Mangoes in Barbados. This house is truly a great bargan in a very safe neighborhood. The owners make sure you have all the provisions to make your beach getaway is complete. We brought our two children with us and they loved dining outside every morning on the gazebo and front porch. The location is superb! Really no need to rent a vehicle as everything is within walking distance. When you stay at this house you get access to the beach club across the street which has a wonderful pool. The food and service at the club is outstanding!! Their are two great little beaches within a 5 minute walk. You are also suroounded by some great restaurants and shops The maid Lucinda and Faye the property manager where a delight to chat with too. I did recommend to the owner that she consider adding cable and a DVD player for future visits. After mentioning this to her I did receive a reply that she is in the process of making this happen. You really cannot go wrong if you decide to rent this lovely house. The moment you step foot in Mangoes you feel at home!!

We'd love to come back again!!
A terrific location in Holetown, with excellent facilities. The lovely garden is ideal for relaxing and all of the bedrooms are air-conditioned. Ian and Cath continue to upgrade the villa every year and we would hope to return in due course. The twice weekly maid service was superb. Local restraunts and shops are close by and the members only beach house with swimming pool is just across the road. All of the neighbours are friendly!! Mangoes is ideal for a long stay with friends and family and I can't think of anywhere nicer within the same price range.

A good base on the Platinum Coast to explore the island
Mangoes is a comfortable, clean, well equipped and well located bungalow, which provides an ideal base for exploring the island. It is close (but not too close) to a well-stocked supermarket, a range of bars and restaurants, and the all-important beaches. The beds were comfortable, the recently refurbished kitchen well equipped, and the large garden at the front of the house got the sun all day. The shady veranda was a Godsend. There was a large built-in BBQ in the back garden, which we used frequently. The only downsides for us were that the air conditioning in 2 out of the 3 bedrooms didn't work properly, which was a bit of a problem for us at night as it was very hot and difficult to get a good night's sleep. The owners had been trying for some months to get cable TV and wireless internet nstalled but this hadn't happened by the time we arrived. There was only one TV channel available but that wasn't watchable because of the poor quality of the picture. Not a problem if you're not bothered about sitting inside on hot evenings. Cath was very helpful, both before and during our stay, and she will put herself out to do what she can to make sure her guests have a good holiday.

Hello Frances and Michael, Thanks for all the nice things you said about my house - and me! Holidays are very important, everybody needs to recharge their batteries once in a while, which is why we try to provide the best possible experience for our guests. I hope both of you managed to get plenty of rest, relaxation and to recharge yours! Sorry about the TV problem, now ongoing for 5 months. Barbados is a sleepy little place and the laid back feel is one of the things that everybody falls in love with - until you need something done, that is! You cannot be in a hurry - it does not fit with the ethos! The TV company ran out of equipment so we have to wait until the new shipment arrives! I was surprised about the air-con, which room did you sleep in? All three were ok when we were there last month. I have asked Management to check it out. I know you feel you've done Barbados now, hope you enjoy all your future travels and rechargings! Cheerio, Cath.

About the neighbourhood
Sunset Crest, where Mangoes is situated is a lovely residential area right on the "Platinum Coast" of Barbados . Most of the houses are quite large, detached properties (owned by respectable working people) with beautiful tropical gardens which all adds to the pleasant atmosphere of the area. The Caribbean sea and our pool are situated just across the West Coast road, a mere 2 minutes walk away. The pool is privately owned by Sunset Crest property owners. It is maintained by the Beach House which provides restaurant, bar and facilities. Entry to the pool is free for local residents and renters and, as many locals are working people with busy lives to attend to and not much time to go swimming, this leaves it fairly under-used. Sunset Crest, is very close to historic Holetown where the first settlers landed and the whole area has now been sympathetically developed to provide excellent facilities in traditional Bajan style. Prosperous little businesses thrive in the delightful chattel-shop village and restaurants to suit all pockets abound. All amenities required for a good holiday are within easy walking distance so car hire is not essential except for sight seeing purposes. Buses travel regularly up and down the coast road, South to Bridgetown, the capital, and North to quaint Speightstown and beyond.
Getting around
An excellent bus service runs up and down the coast road regularly. We always hire a car because, as owners, we need to reach furniture stores etc. Holiday makers don't need a car except for sight seeing purposes and some of my more adventurous guests tell me that they have traveled far and wide using only public buses! There are no trains on the island of course, so all transport is by car, bus or taxi...... and boats of course .... always for fun though, there are no boats for transport (as far as I know!)

Car not needed
How to get there
The easiest way to find Mangoes is to drive up the west coast road to Sunset Crest/Holetown area. Turn right by Sandy Crest Medical Centre (also where the fruit sellers have their stalls on the left) and take the first road on the left, just after the fruit sellers and one house. This is Hibiscus Avenue. Mangoes is the third house on the left hand side. We have double wrought iron gates and the right hand pillar bears a ceramic name plaque quoting Mangoes 94.
