Reviewed 30 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

My wife and I stayed here for 3 weeks in May and had a wonderful time. This studio apartment was comfortable, a few steps from the beach, and very affordable.

Staying here gave us an opportunity to fully explore Holetown, with its wonderful restaurants and shopping. The apartment came with everything we needed and the patio chairs were very comfortable. Here at the apartment, we saw frolicking mongeese and the family of green monkeys who live in the trees next door and sat on the wall outside our apartment nibbling on mangos and breadfruit.

Meshelle and Helena keep the rooms clean and provide fresh sheets and towels. They do an excellent job as does Elvis, the gardener. Frequent visitors to our patio were the little birds that stopped to munch on the blueberry muffins we had set out for them.

The room was wonderful and the staff was great! The beach was also amazing! The water is warm and inviting and there are so many reefs to snorkel. Just down the beach...

About the neighbourhood
The apartment is about 5 minutes walk north of Holetown, a small but lively town on the main north-south road along the west coast. Holetown offers banking facilities, taxis, car rental, Internet cafe, Post Office, excellent supermarket, shops (take your passport for duty-free shopping), bars and restaurants. Elegant dining, curry, pizza, Bajan cuisine and fast food are all available. Nearby Limegrove is a new, 10-acre lifestyle centre with boutiques, restaurants, bars, gourmet foods, an art gallery, cinema and spa. If your cup of tea is sports, then you might join the fans gathered to watch football, rugby or cricket on satellite TV at Surfside, a Holetown beach bar. Buses are frequent, so if you decide not to rent a car there is no problem visiting Bridgetown, the bustling capital of th... more
Getting around
Buses are a convenient way to visit the sights. Art Studio is located just off Hwy 1 which is the main road along the west coast. Buses are very frequent. There are two bus lines - the blue (government) ones take exact change and the yellow (private) reggae ones that will give change. The ride into Bridgetown takes about 20 minutes. We provide information on the bus routes to most of the island's attractions.

If you really want to get off the beaten track then car rental for a few days might be a good idea but the rental will have to be reserved well in advance in the high season.
Car not needed
How to get there
You can hire a taxi at the airport or we can have a local taxi driver, known to us, meet you outside the Arrivals Hall. The driver will hold a sign with your name on and will have the keys to our apartment for you - a great help in the event that your flight arrives after our housekeeper has left for the day. Art Studio is located off Hwy 1 in Holetown between two hotels, Discovery Bay and Sandpiper.

Barbados taxis can be identified by the letter “Z” that appears on their license plates. As you exit customs you'll see a board displaying the standard taxi fares to various points on the island. Be sure to stop and review these prices. You should settle on the fare and currency (US$1 = BDS$2) before beginning your journey.
