Portreath is breathtakingly beautiful, friendly and practical for young children - we love it! Porthtowan, Trevaunace Cove and Carbis Bay are all breathtaking beaches nearby. We would also recommend St Michal Mounts, Kynance Cove, Minnack Theatre, Godolphin Gardens, Dairyland and Lappa Valley Steam Railway for family days out.

Don't bother trying to to drive to St Ives...take the park and ride train service from Hayle or take the bus from Portreath (bus stop is 1 min from the cottage). As for Portreath, it is a wonderful quiet Cornish village. We sampled all 3 pubs and their food (all were fine), the Chinese and Costcutter grocery store.
