Famous above all for its Roman Baths and Georgian architecture, Bath is one of the most beautiful and popular cities in England, if not the world. Accommodation can of course be expensive, but renting a property is the ideal low-cost alternative to a hotel. You will have the freedom to plan your schedule just as you wish, and there will be plenty of space to relax in. A fully equipped kitchen will allow you to prepare meals as and when you like. If you do want to eat out, Bath has a wonderful variety of restaurants for you to choose from.
The Roman Baths at the centre of the World Heritage Site that is Bath are likely to be your first port of call. After your visit, why not enjoy lunch or tea at the adjoining Pump Room? Just a stone's throw away is the beautiful Bath Abbey; if you can climb its tower's 212 steps, you will be rewarded by a spectacular view of the city. A few minutes' walk from the city centre, the Royal Crescent is a sight not to be missed. In fine weather, take a look at Priorpark Landscape Garden, which dates from the eighteenth century, or Dyrham Deer Park. On a rainy day, make a beeline for the American Museum in Britain at Claverton Manor, with its folk art gallery, quilt collection and fascinating maps. End the day with a visit to Sally Lunn's Restaurant, located in the oldest house in Bath.
When the sun shines, why not pay a visit to Royal Victoria Park? With its skatepark, golf course, putting greens, roundabouts, swings and refreshments, the whole family will have fun. If you enjoy rowing, punting or canoeing, the River Avon runs through the city and offers all of these, or simply a relaxing boat trip. It's only about ten miles to Longleat Safari Park at Warminster, where there are hands-on experiences with small animals as well as the opportunity to view lions, zebras and rhino among others. Even a day trip to the ancient monument at Stonehenge is possible, so think about booking a tour.
