Anglesey is a haven for wildlife and there are many locations to take your binoculars during your visit. Your first stop should be South Stack lighthouse, an RSPB reserve near Holyhead on Holy Island. You’ll be treated to amazing views of puffins, choughs and more seabirds nesting on the cliffside.

The ancient Watling Street runs from London right across the country and ends in Anglesey, so it’s a route well-trodden by centuries of travellers. Road access to the island is by way of the impressive Menai Suspension Bridge. Designed by famous engineer Thomas Telford, it has stood since 1826 and is an iconic feature of North Wales.

Taking a boat tour is a popular way to see the best of Anglesey. Many operators organise trips out past Trwyn Du lighthouse to Puffin Island; an uninhabited island teeming with seabirds including guillemots, cormorants and, of course, puffins. Don’t forget to look into the water too, though: the waters around Anglesey are also home to friendly bottlenose dolphins who’ve been known to swim close to the boats.
