The Barn fit the bill perfectly. It is located on a very quiet single track road that only services about a dozen homes. Gethin and his family live downstairs and our accommodation was upstairs.
"Lovely period cottage in a great location for exploring Calderdale"
But we still explored the area and found some great walks through woods and along the canal. The cottage was handy for Halifax (20 min walk) and Sowerby Bridge (10 min walk). The only problem was that all return walks were uphill!!
Jane, the owner, did all she could to make us welcome, even going down to stocking the fridge with essentials for when we arrived. The location is perfect for exploring the Calder Valley and even further afield. And the pub next door is just an added bonus!
"Cosy cottage, wonderful view"
Ricci's Tapas is at the Dean Clough complex along with a growing range of bars. The Dean Clough complex also has a theatre & art gallery. For culture try climbing Wainhouse Tower on bank holidays - it's a long climb and your legs will ache but the views worth it on a clear day.
The cottage itself is lovely - pics don't do it justice. The rural setting is also lovely with loads of space for the kids to play. The owner lives in the adjoining property and him and his wife were really friendly and helpful.
