Magical Marrakech
There's so much to experience in this region of Morocco, but let's start with the city itself. It's a riot of colour, scents, sounds and sensations from the shouts of street traders to prayer calls from the mosques' minarets.
History
Every turn one takes in this magical city reveals another historical delight. The palace of La Bahia (the beautiful) is a popular stop on the tourist trail thanks to its astonishing beauty. It took 14 years to complete and showcases incredible craftsmanship with detailed painting and luxurious silks covering every inch of the interior walls. Its history will capture your imagination, too, with tales of Grand Viziers and their harems.
Escape the city
If you need a break from the chaos of the city, head to the Jardin Majorelle which is just a short distance from the Medina. The gardens were created by couture designer Yves Saint Laurent as a gift to the people of Morocco. Situated in the grounds of an impressive cobalt-blue villa, they’re a real oasis of calm. You can stroll in the shade of palm trees and admire beautiful lotus flowers.
Accommodation
If you're looking to stay in Marrakech, a riad is ideal. These refined residences have lofty ceilings and mezzanine landings over double-height rooms. Some even have their own private hammam spa pools - you really won't want to leave.
