Aspiring beach bum. I rarely travel by myself, but do on rare occasion. I prefer to travel with my wife..not significant other..not that there's anything wrong with that. Married to the same woman since 1976. Clearly, she's a saint for putting up with me. I want travel; she wants furniture. I'm heavily insured and she's much younger...so she'll get her furniture eventually, and it won't matter to me. ;^) In the meantime, I need another trip to Key West. Just recently (April, 2007) returned from a conference in the Bahamas. Please note that in my list of places I've been, the TA selector identifies Grand Bahama, New Providence, and Andros Islands as being in the Caribbean. The 700 island archepelago which is the Bahamas is in the Atlantic. The Bahamians will quickly correct such a faulty reference. While there, I was flown to South Andros to visit an "eco-friendly" resort. We flew into Congo Town International Airport. By comparison, Key West is a busy hub like Atlanta. Google Tiamo Resort. Totally self sufficient. They create their own hot water & electricity with solar arrays, storage batteries and inverters. The place has a maximum guest occupancy of 22. You have to take a boat to get there. There's nothing else. No TV or phones, either. I guess the office has satellite phone & internet, but not for routine use by guests. Their chef creates a five star meal, and the girls behind the bar whip up a mean drink. A couple of days there will have you withdrawn from the hectic workday world like a month in Key West. Price wise, transportation and 3 nights (all inclusive) is more than a week in Key West for me. Now then: My favorite thing about where I live, and where I visit is the same. It's the people. I seek out the fun, kind, interesting, caring and honest people wherever I go. I shun those who are negative, phony and dishonest. I also tend to shun those who associate with them. In sociology, it's called the law of differential association. People who hang out with drunken, cheating bums, tend to be of questionable character. So I look for the positive in people. If you're headed for the Florida Keys, I sincerely hope you'll read the Insider Pages and peruse the TripAdvisor forums. It's a wonderful place to visit. I may not live there, but I get back every chance I get!
