I'd say I'm an amateur traveler. I haven't ventured to very many places, but I do have the desire to. As much as I try to save a buck, I don't mind splurging here and there. I'm a typical tourist and love the major landmarks, but I can't stand being on someone else's schedule, so I rarely take tours.
Thanks to the Food Network, I'm always looking for local fare and love sharing my opinions and experiences for other future patrons.
When traveling, I often say to myself "I did not pay 'X' dollars to come here and do what I can do back home". So, I try to find activities, adventures and experiences that are native to where I'm visiting. The best way I find is by chatting with the locals and staff of any establishment. They usually know the best spots that aren't infested by tourists and that preserve the local experience.
