I live in a cheap house, drive a cheap car and am a notorious skinflint - all to support my travel habit. Now that my children are grown and self-sufficient I travel at least once a year, both within and outside the United States. I travel with my adult children, my DH and occasionally with friends. I do not mind small hotel rooms or small bathrooms - I do not travel to spend time in a hotel - as long as it's clean.. I am not a foodie although I like trying new food and love wine. I love architecture, art and history and enjoy the outdoors and natural landscapes. I obsessively plan each trip, including reading every trip advisor post on each location. I like to rent a car so I have flexibility in what I see and when I see it, and have driven in France, Ireland and Turkey so far. I always read about the history and culture of each place I go and learn as much of the language as I can. I take pictures, lots of pictures, tens of thousands!
