Since Jul 2009

65+ year old male

Portland, OR

I try to include scuba diving as a priority when I choose a summer or off-season destination. If the season or location doesn't support that, I enjoy scenic/wildlife photographic opportunities, peace and quiet, and a restful night's sleep to continue my travels. My wife and I occasionally bring our small/medium-sized dogs with us, and we usually check for "pet friendly" lodging before we bring them with us. I observe that many reviews differ widely in criticism of issues that frequently depend on good communication and positive attitude. When I read that "the waiter was rude" or the hotel desk ignored the reviewer, I remind myself that I'm only reading one side of the issue. As you travel, understand that you are one of many travelers and customers, and lead with a sense of humor and a smile. If you're tired, cranky and demanding, don't expect to be treated like visiting royalty. Be a bit flexible, and understand that the "adventure of travel" often includes a misadventure or two.
